Muzio
Clementi
January 24, 1752
- March 10, 1832
An Italian by birth, Muzio Clementi spent most of his life in England where he had a multifaceted career as pianist, composer, teacher, conductor, publisher, and piano manufacturer. Although strongly influenced by the Classical school of his predecessors, Clementi developed a singing legato style in his piano works that foreshadowed the melodic expression that is typical of the Romantic composers who followed.
