A Hungarian pianist and composer, Béla Bartók was a legendary composer of the 20th century. An acknowledged ethnomusicologist, Bartók undertook an extensive study of folk music in his region of the world as well as in other countries. During World War II, Bartók fled to the United States where he finished is career.
