Strategically located in the heart of one of America’s most vibrant cultural centers, the Department of Music at Cleveland State University utilizes the city’s rich musical resources to provide students with a complete spectrum of educational opportunities. The Department of Music provides a comprehensive education in music at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and presents concerts, recitals, seminars, master classes and workshops for the campus community and the region.
The Keyboard Area offers opportunities for specialized training in the Taubman Approach and technique/wellness workshops. In addition to a broad range in makes of well-maintained pianos, students may have access to the harpsichord, fortepiano, pipe organs, as well as AvantGrand piano. Disklaviers are also available in practice rooms.

Undergraduate Piano Audition Requirements
Repertoire for keyboard auditions should include at least three contrasting works from different periods (baroque, classical, romantic, contemporary). For performance majors, it is expected that the works be played by memory. For others, at least one must be memorized.
An audition is required prior to admission for all students intending to earn the Master of Music in performance. In the audition, which should be fifteen minutes or longer, the student must demonstrate performance proficiency with stylistic breadth through at least three contrasting works from different periods (baroque, classical, romantic, contemporary). All works to be performed by memory.
Graduate Piano Audition Requirements
Sight-reading may be included.
